How to convert Internal Hard Disk to External (Portable Hard Drive)

Very Easy Process to convert your spare Internal hard disk to External hard drive. This process eventually helps every type of hard drive which are basically 3.5  referring to Hard drive used in Desktop and 2.5 used in Laptops. I myself have had experienced with Laptops 2.5 SATA hard disk.

Therefore,  just follow the steps shown below, no any software required to change the Internal hard disk to external.

Step 1: Internal Hard Drive

The very first step to begin this step obviously you need an internal hard drive as shown in the picture below. This one is WD 2.5 SATA 500 GB HDD that was being used on my Dell N5010 Laptop since 5 years.

Step 2: Buy an External HDD Case and Cable

You need to have an external case as the internal hard drive doesn’t have one. You can buy a good External Hdd cases for around $10 – $15. I am from Nepal and I bought it from a local store in around 1000 bucks which is equivalent.

As shown in the picture you can see inside the box, I got an external case, an SATA Connector and a USB 3.0 cable. Well, it’s better if you use USB 3.0 rather than USB 2.0 for better file transfer.

Step 3: Adjust the Hard drive inside the case.

Therefore, after fulfilling all the requirements of the hardware. First, place the SATA Connector into the hard drive as shown in the picture.

Finally, open up the casing, mine was very simple with the press and lock system but many other cases come with screw system. You can simply fit the hard disk inside the case and lock it.

Next, open up the casing, mine was very simple with the press and lock system. But, many other cases come with the screw, just work on it, I know you can do deal with that simple screw. And now you can solely fit the hard disk inside the case and lock it.

Step 4: Plug-in

Finally, put the USB cable that came with your casing. If you had any, in your recently purchased external hard drive case then plugin into your computer.
